Holland is in the middle of the Betty Watt 'Anh' 4n progeny season so I thought a little chat about this wonderful orchid may be timely.
Firstly, the whole story will not come out until someone else dies or I croak! I have instructed a trusted friend with the complete story and either I or they will round out the saga. Unless something totally devious has transpired, only Anh, Bert Ruiter and I own any pieces of this plant.
It has been a once in a lifetime parent that has transformed spotted standard Cyms. The plant is a totally trouble-free grower, super fertile and its progeny are uniformly vigorous growers. Bert has the best spotted BWA seedling to date but the Cym Alan Napper at last year's Santa Barbara Show was in my eyes, the best plant on the day. It seemed slightly immature and actually improved during the Show. By the closing day, it really stood out! And while my great friend Alan Napper is no longer on this earth, he surely had the right Cym named in his honor!
We will still do some spotted types for the Three Amigos in Australia, Plantae in S. Africa and Susumu Furuya in China but Ruiter Orchids has the European and US market in their hands. We're really "hot" on the WT market at present and of course, guess what one of the parents of Cym Llewellyn Kouba is?
