Blue cym cross results !!!!!

Post by GaryCAZ »

Andy,

Incredible, I know now how excited you are. Grats!!!
Two of your new experimental blue cyms are open now, nice tall erect spikes on small bulbs. The size suggests intermediate on a compact plant. Bloomed 82 of the cross so far, these are the first, must have taken the heat here in AZ to do it. Have 45 left to bloom. The color reminds me of my l. canhamaniana '6686', kind of an intense steel blue. 18 min and 22 max buds on the spikes. Amazing. I'll post photos here if you wish. Glad this is the private forum, I know that you don't want this to get out to the public.
BTW I brought them in the house for protection. Glock 23 backs me up and I'm a hell of a shot.

Off to work for a while, hope to hear from you when I get back to town and a WIFI signal again. The boonies are nice here.

Nice work Master.

Below is the 6686 for color comparison to yours in the secure greenhouse.

Now that will cause a stir in the Cym world if you have flowers close to this colour.

Can't wait to see a photo.

Well done guys.

Cheers

It is a lovely colour I must admit.

Would be nice to see those colour genes in Cym hybrids - maybe one day well into the future when you and I have croaked it as you say.

A blue Cymbidium can be easily produced at any time. The problem is to recoup the cost of the genetic transformation. If a fertile tetraploid or diploid was created, anybody could make hybrids with the plant and essentially create their own blues. If it was a sterile triploid, it would have to be patented and the necessary sale's volume to reach profitability would be daunting.
