Send me some pollen.....
We get lots of these requests and although it is truly a pain in the ass to harvest the flowers, take them home and extract the pollen, label each package before mailing etc, I am happy to do it in the greater interest of helping other enthusiast hybridizers. Occasionally you never hear a word back from the person requesting the pollen, nothing at all. Such bad manners and I remember, so when or if they next ask, I manage to be too busy to respond! In another era, I used to send pollen and dry seed to people like the Gympie Wanker, Justin Priddy and even shared breeding plants with them. Of course it was all a one-way street and I never hear from them at all now. Maybe they have no need of anything from us anymore and just maybe they are in for a big surprise very soon......

Re: Send me some pollen.....
Hi Andy,
I do not blame you for having that attitude - you go to all the trouble and expense to send out the pollen by mail and then not hear anything back at all from these clowns, not even a thankyou I am guessing. No wonder they end up on the wrong side of your ledger so to speak. Good on you for calling them out and ignoring them on any future request. Life is too short to entertain this sort.
If you sent me pollen ,I would certainly thank you for it, tell you what I used it to cross with and let you know how the pods were going and offer seed or pods back to you in return, that would be the least a person should do.
By the way are there any issues that you would know about in getting pollen past our AQIS police!!
Have a good day
Cheers
Gary..

Yes, I hope I've never forgotten to thank you for anything you've sent me, pollen or otherwise. Thank you.
Unfortunately, of all the crosses I've tried, very few have taken. Even fewer have produced seed. Pods swell, holds for several months, turn yellow, so I harvest them. Empty. There is one pod holding pollen from Andy and I keep crossing my fingers that there will be seeds. I can only think there is something going on with my culture, but the Cattleya pods do fine. It's the Cymbidiums and Catasetinae that are having "issues" now. Some are also with known breeding plants too.
Anyway, thank you for your generosity (including information).

Al, you are always the most prompt in acknowledging safe receipt of pollen. One of these times you'll get so much seed you'll be calling for mercy.
Gary S, nothing special, just put it in an envelope with a little tissue paper enclosing and off it goes. Have also send plenty of dry seed over the years too, as far as I'm concerned AQIS are a bunch of Nazi's. They'll probably start looking for my mailing address now.... but I do have a couple of interesting nom-de-plumes to use instead, like C. Hutchings at 1351 Orchid Drive!! Ha ha,

Al, you should try pollen from Andy's VA. It is so fertile, it will generally take on to anything. I had it crossed onto my Pratabong and they have just gone onto their first replate.

I can only hope that you received the thank you for the pollen you sent me. If not
thanks again. I was actually wondering what to do next - it is the first pod I
planned to try to grow to maturity.

I am sure AQIS here have plenty of other things to keep them occupied at the moment.MrCym wrote:as far as I'm concerned AQIS are a bunch of Nazi's. I assume "C Hutchings" is another one of your black book entries?
Gary.

It really isn't hard to be polite and do the right thing - especially when someone else is doing you a favour.
