Sometimes you overlook the obvious.....

Post by MrCym »

Funny how hybridizers often overlook the quiet achievers in their breeding lineup. I was deflasking, ad nauseum, today and letting my mind wander. With this funny early season we are getting unusual overlaps among plants and this provides hybridizing opportunities. I can pretty well say that we will always have a plant of Chian-Tzy Mascot 'NH' 4n, Valerie Absolonova 4n, Green Santa 'NH' 4n and Marian Banks 4n in bloom over twelve months of the year. Sometimes the flowers will be fading or barely opening but they will be there. This gives us great opportunities to juggle seasons and expand our range of varieties that will bloom at least twice a year, even in a cooler climate like Salinas and and very easily in warmer places. Anyway, I have thought up some exciting crosses with Green Santa so a break in the deflasking tomorrow and some pollen transfer is planned. No "BIB", I'm not going to tell you what it will be crossed with but maybe I will tell you when we meet up in Australia??.

Still working on the trip details. More societies want me to speak than I have days available. I would like to visit some growers as well.

Mr. Cym.
I was sorry to hear you couldn't make it to Brisbane on the dates discussed. I had quite a line-up of enthusiasts wanting to hear you in person. A few were wanting to tell you that you CAN NOT flower cyms in Queensland.
I'll try to make it to one of your interstate engagements when your itinerary is finalised.

Sabredance. I've heard what goes on when you two get together. I am a very delicate person. I still haven't heard what actually happened in Las Vegas or at the steakhouse in Adelaide.

There is a photo, but a bit too hot for this esteemed chronicle - but you do realise you will miss out on meeting Olga!

Well there is always Youtube.

And by the way......that Beverly Cobb is flowering its head off. When does it rest?
I have placed it in the centre of a couple of dozen supposedly warmth tolerants, and explained that this is what I expect them to do too!
And I have parked the wheelie bin at the door to the shade house. You have to be ruthless in this business, as you know.

Olga from the steakhouse or Olga the croupier?

I just checked out Olga's Steakhouse in Jacksonville.
Specialities are all my favourites.
Crawfish Corn Chowder.
Russian Borsht.
Crawfish Quesadillas.
Etc etc etc.
EVERYONE loves Olga. She probably flirts with everyone.
I have indigestion just reading about it.
I'm more of a Sizzlers person.

Nigel,

Maybe it was just the batch of seedlings I got, but all of the plants of Beverly Cobb never bloomed for me.
