Very impressive! Susu has his senior Lab man on deck, the famous Obonnai who produces magnificent replate/clonal flasks. I noted the significantly greater depth of medium in these flasks......

So the re plating is not onto a sterile medium?

No, of course the flasks are sterile. It's part of their procedure to pop the tops five days before washing off and planting.

Obinnai - would you rate him the foremost Orchid Scientist still alive?

Understand, it was the open container that the question related to.

Obonai is the classic mad Scientist with just that dash of eccentricity that marks greatness. As a Lab Scientist, I believe he has no equals.

Found a couple of Patents Assigned to Mukoyama Orchids Ltd, some unique and clever chemistry described but as is the case with most patents getting to the end point of exactly what is the best medium to use is not easy.
While the patents have probably expired by now it would be interesting to see if his media have been used outside of Mukoyama Orchids. The seedling flask shown in the photo certainty shows a well developed plantlets, nothing like the seedlings that I have received with imported odont flasks.
