Kevin Hipkins

In Australia, today is the anniversary of the day we lost Kevin. A larger than life figure who was a major force in the Orchid World. Kevin and his parents, Roy and Alice, were legends for both their nursery and their hospitality. We had the honor of naming a hybrid Cym Kevin Hipkins and just today I used several hybrids made with this Cym to move the line forward. Interestingly, although the individual Cym Kevin Hipkins selections are very fertile, the next generation, all tetraploids, have been quite difficult breeders. Orchids can be cantankerous at times! The Carol Ann Easton selections are also a bit choosy about their partners too, but in the F1! The influence common to the two is Parish Madness 4n which does not seem to have given me any fertility issues in previous combinations......
