From the Shows in Medellin!

Post by MrCym »

It was a wonderful visit and I got to catch up with friends and see some fabulous orchids and floral art. Don't know where one could see a greater range of genera and quality orchids!

Wonderful, wonderful. Brought back memories of my visit to the show but difficult to believe that was 7 years ago. The style of exhibits were quite unlike anything we see back in the UK.

Or in the US or in Australia, Richard. It's the variety of genera which reflect the altitude they're grown at which always blows me away.

The photo of the Masdevallia display is beautiful, the background colour of Vanda compliments them very well.

Nice to see. Some really well grown Cattleyas and the rich coloured sizeable Vanda.

But, the climate around you in El Retiro is more conducive to growing those genera than Cymbidium.

Well Murph, El Retiro is Cymbidium/Odont country for sure. But drop several thousand feet to Medellin and you're in Cattleya territory. A little lower and it's Vanilla and Vandas! That's why the show has so many genera just within a say a distance of 100 kilometers.
