Back to El Retiro....
What's left of me labored into El Retiro an hour ago. This is a three day holiday weekend and the traffic was incredibly dense and accidents abounded. It was drizzling rain and cold too so that added to the mishaps. It took us 2.40 hours to get from Rio Negro Airport to my place. Normally that would be a 30 minute trip! I will give a quick rundown on the CA scene when I catch up a bit on my sleep.....

As long as the trip itself was stimulating and rewarding I suppose you can put up with a rotten trip home.
That journey from the airport is excessive - I seem to remember from my visit that taxi rates where you are are based solely on mileage with no inclusion of time so for a situation like yours I expect tipping plays a big part.
Sleep well!

Richard, last night's drive was Hell! My poor driver, but Omar and Claudia have been with me for several years now and they know the area well. Claudia is ER born. It took her two hours to get to the airport, fortunately my flight had a one hour delay and then she had essentially to go in the opposite direction to find a linking road from Rio Negro to La Ceja to finally arrive home two hours and 40 minutes after entering the car! Yes, I doubled the normal payment which was only fair but felt very well treated! I don't function well after being awake on planes for over 30 hours.

Nice seeing you at CalOrchids. And thanks for the great plants. So glad I got the John McCormack X One the Beach "flask". Take it easy if you can. Ed from Whittier 90605.

Ed, "take it easy"?? You wouldn't like to see my schedule for the next week. But all good, old friends in town from FL and of course the Ruiters will be visiting from The Netherlands. I had hoped to be able to brag about our weather but it's been daily rain and cooler than usual. Of course compared with Holland, temps will be balmy.
