One reason why the Cym scene in CA is so moribund.....

I was just looking at the Golden Gate Cymbidium Society website to see if they had anything about their disastrous recent show. Nothing and the newest reference was to the POE in February and a comment that pictures of the society display there would be posted "on the weekend". Only problem is nobody stipulated which weekend and seven weeks later, of course no pictures. An out-of-date website is worse than useless, it actually makes folk mad.

What makes me mad is that I am a life member of said society and they cannot even send me their monthly newsletter electronically. I should sue in small claims court for breach of contract! When they ignore me, I happily ignore them. No plant donations etc.

One other little tidbit at the website made me smile. There was a link to "Pygmy Pendant's" plant offerings and photo gallery. The breeding plants and selections were predictably lackluster but what made me smile was, it dated from 2009. Out of date, out of his depth and out of contention..... what normally results from three outs? Time to get out!

What you described in your post is very similar to the society and show scene here also.

Must be a world wide phenomenon in the orchid world, no wonder a lot of genuine hobbyists (like me) get so turned off by these happenings.

It only takes a few to get involved who think they know it all and wreck it for everyone else.

Yes, some of the societies are headed up by drongos or people with an agenda, you see the crafty ones advantaging themselves all the time but the broader membership just walk and the orchid scene becomes ever more stagnant. Maybe I have to hope that they die off and that new blood will arrive shortly thereafter.....
